The Sir John Sedley Educational Foundation assists young people, up to the age of 25, with financial support to help with educational development. This includes those in formal education, apprentices and those who wish to undertake private study to further their careers and education.
We help both individuals and groups by providing a bursary to help with a wide range of costs, including:
When the bursary is associated with music, it is known as
The Andy Chapman Music Award.
Bursary Awards are also available, which provide funding for 3 years to a course or project of special merit.

Q. I’ve been at university for 2 years, can I apply?
A. Yes. It doesn’t matter what stage you are at with your education. As long as you are the age of 25 or under, you are eligible to apply for a grant or bursary.
Q. I want to take sabbatical leave to travel and broaden my knowledge. Does this qualify?
A. As long as you are travelling for educational purposes (i.e. not a holiday) your travel qualifies to be subsidized through a grant.
Q. I used to live in one of the mentioned parishes, but now live in student halls. Do I qualify for a grant or bursary?
A. Possibly. As long as your main residence is still within the qualifying villages and parishes, your application will be considered.
Q. I am 18 and have left education. Can I apply for a grant or bursary?
A. Yes if the application is for something that will further your education, such as an apprenticeship.
At the Sir John Sedley Educational Foundation, we aim to help support young people with financial support in variety of different areas of their education. This could be with materials, contributions towards vocational courses, educational trips, or just general expenses that education can entail.
We judge each application on an individual basis, but if you are unsure if your needs qualify for funding, please do not hesitate in contacting us.
With Grants, the amounts awarded are at the Trustees' discretion. Please note that individuals can apply each academic year.
With Bursaries, there is generally no maximum amount, but this will typically be £1,000 for each year of your course of study programme.
As part of the terms of each Grant or Bursary, the Trustees ask that an update on your progress and achievements is provided. Further detail will be given about this if your application is approved. In the instance where funding is approved before your course or event is cancelled, you will be obligated to return the funds to the Trust.
